The laboratory's research areas are near-Earth space physics and solar-terrestrial relations:
  • Features of the behavior of the density and anisotropy of galactic cosmic rays
  • The influence of solar activity and geophysical phenomena on the geomagnetic field
  • Dynamic processes in the Earth upper atmosphere and ionosphere.
The laboratory carries out continuous measurements
  • geomagnetic field measurements at the Alma-Ata AAA observatory
  • cosmic ray flux on a neutron monitor AATB
  • solar radio flux at wavelengths 10.7 и 28.3 cm
The K-index of magnetic activity and the F-10.7 index of solar activity are calculated in real time. The laboratory provides a daily forecast of solar activity and space weather, including the dynamics of the Kp, Ap, and F10.7 indices, as well as a forecast of the probability of proton enhancements in the near-Earth space.
